Affordable Interior Design - Mi Casa Su Casa
By Julie Worthington, Reporter
Affordable Interior Design is ready to have you welcome them into your home. And stranger or no stranger, they aim to be your best friend as they seek to redecorate and remodel your home.
Affordable Interior Design is the brainchild of owner Betsy Helmuth. She began decorating as a child, using it as a hobby for her family and friends. When she became busy with an abundance of customers that loved her work, she decided to bring other designers aboard and start her own business.
This was in 2005 and 22 years later, A.I.D. is still going strong. They work virtually out of Greenwich Village, and also do business out of Dupont Circle in Washington, D.C. Her employees total 10 people - some there for as little as one year and one as long as seven years.
A.I.D. tries to help families, primarily with "organization and tidiness," Helmuth said.
"Alot of people have issues with clutter and storage," she said
They also work with the aesthetics, using things like artwork and rugs, according to Helmuth. They charge families a flat rate based on the money the customers give them to work with, and the amount of space they will be working with.
A.I.D. decided they wanted to help out the families in the Ukraine by donating $50 of each design job they are currently working on to the World Central Kitchen, which offers meals to Ukrainian families.
"We just saw the crisis and wanted to help," Helmuth said.
"We decided one way to improve the situation was to give a portion of our proceeds to the people."
Helmuth said the best part of working at A.I.D. is making a difference in people's lives.
"I'm in the business of transformation," she added.
